Week of December 9, 2019 December 13, 2019
Some activities this week included:
- Talking and sharing our holiday traditions.
- Reading Pete the Cat Saves Christmas and My First Kwanzaa Book.
- Having Stella's mom, Mrs. Giammarino come in and share family traditions, reading pop-up book Brava Strega Nona, teaching us some Italian words and sharing some delicious Italian Christmas cookies. A recipe for seven-layer cookies was sent home in backpacks. It was a fantastic morning.
- Michael and Marlee's mom, Mrs. Sadek, coming in on Friday and reading The Mitten, sharing Christmas cookies, providing materials for a mitten craft and sending in a Gingerbread house that we will work on next week. Thank you for a wonderful morning.
- Painting a Christmas ornament that will be sent home next week after we add "ornaments."
- Practicing our songs for the Christmas Show - the show is Thursday, December 19 at 9:00 a.m.

Week of December 2, 2019 - December 6, 2019
Some activities this week included:
- Having the zoo come to our classroom for a visit. We used our senses to touch, see, hear, and even smell a chinchilla, a pancake tortoise, and a snake. The children were so excited about this wonderful visit.
- Having Ms. Stephanie from the library visit. She read several books to the children and used scarves for some movement activities.
- Reading holiday books and making a Christmas tree craft, a gingerbread craft, and a mitten craft.
-Practicing our Christmas songs for the Christmas show. Thank you for practicing at home too!!!
Reminders:
- Our Christmas Show is on Thursday, Dec. 19th at 9 a.m. Looking forward to seeing all the families at the show. Remember to wear red!!!
- If you were not able to make it to the parent-teacher conference. I will certainly make accommodations to meet with you at another time.

Parent-teacher conference is Friday, Dec. 6. THIS IS A HALF DAY FOR THE CHILDREN. DISMISSAL IS AT 12 and the parent-teacher conference begins at 12.
A note went home about sending in a change of clothes for the upcoming winter season. A warm shirt, pants, socks, and underwear is necessary. Thank you!!
Week of November 18 - November 22, 2019
Some activities included:
- Continuing to learn about community helpers. We had three parents come in this week to help us learn more about their careers:

Firefighter Michael McConville - Juliet's dad
Mr. Tommy - GiadaMarie's dad (from Ms. Karen's class) who came in to talk about his job with the MTA
- Reading Should I Share My Icecream? and Going to the Doctor
- Introducing the nurses kit into the dramatic play area. The children are enjoying taking care of the baby dolls with the kit.
- Making a special Thanksgiving Day card and craft.
- Making and enjoying a Thanksgiving Day Blessing Mix - Bugles, Pretzels, and Cheerios.
-Talking about Thanksgiving - the family and friends who we share this special holiday with and all the yummy food we eat.
- Practicing our Thanksgiving Day songs for our feast.
Reminders:
- We are still collecting food for our Thanksgiving Day box to give to the needy
- Our Thanksgiving Day Feast is Monday, November 25th at 1:00. Looking forward to a wonderful afternoon.

Week of November 11, 2019 - November 15, 2019
Some activities included:
- Welcoming the newest member of our class - Baby Shark - our class pet fish. The children were excited to see the fish and learn how to take care of him.
- Reading There's a Bear in My Chair, Police Officers on the Go, and The Post Office Book.
- Making a class turkey with our handprint
- Enjoying time at the Christmas Fair. - a fun time was had by all!!!

-We have a Thanksgiving Day box in our room. We would appreciate any non-perishable donations you can make that will go to those in need. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
-Please send in any extra empty paper towel rolls for us to add to our art center. Thank you.
- We gladly welcome any parents that would like to come into our classroom and talk about their career.
- If you send in grapes for your child to eat, please cut them to prevent any choking. Thank you for your cooperation.

Week of November 4, 2019 - November 8, 2019
Some activities this week included:
- Discussing the different types of community workers in our neighborhood and reading books about Community Helpers.
- Reading Don't Wake the Tiger
- Making and eating a fruit salad and charting our favorite fruit
- Talking about Thanksgiving, the food we eat and the people we celebrate with.
- Reading Thanksgiving Day books, making a handprint turkey and singing Thanksgiving Day songs.
- Having a special visitor, Ms. Stephanie from the NYC Public Library, come and visit the Pre-K classrooms. The children really enjoyed her visit, the books she read and the songs and activities.
Reminders:
- No school Monday, November 11 in observance of Veteran's Day
- Christmas Fair is Friday, November 15. Parents are welcome to come and shop with their child at 8:10 - 8:40. Wear your favorite Christmas shirt.
- Folders went home this weekend, please check them for important notices. Thank you.
- We would appreciate any pictures you can take of a building in your neighborhood so we can add the pictures to our block area for the children to reference when they build. - a notice went home in folders.

Week of October 28, 2019 - November 1, 2019
Some activities this week included:
- Reading Halloween books and making a pumpkin craft. We also read fire safety books.
- Carving a Jack-o-Lantern.
- Eating apple cider donuts and charting if we like/dislike them.
- Enjoying time with our family for our pumpkin decorating day.
- Celebrating Halloween with a parade outside to show off our costumes.
REMINDER: There is no school for all of OLQP on Wednesday, November 6, 2019.

Week of October 21, 2019 - October 25
Some activities this week included:
- Learning about our senses - Reading My Five Senses and talking about what body parts we use for each sense. Used only our sense of touch to feel items in a mystery bag. We listened for different sounds outside and used musical instruments to hear different sounds. We smelled different flavored tea bags and discussing which ones we like/dislike.
- Reading Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See? and making a class book on who we see!! Playing I Spy outside.
- Reading Polar Bear, Polar Bear What Do You Hear? and listening to different sounds and guessing what they are.
- Opening up a pumpkin to see, smell, and touch the seeds and the pulp using tweezers and magnifying glasses. We also tasted pumpkin bread and charted if we liked/disliked it.
- Using the top part of the pumpkin that we cut open for painting.
- Making patterns with black and orange crayons and practiced counting to two.
- Make a pretend pumpkin patch with plastic pumpkins in the block area

- Our Pumpkin Decorating Day is Monday, October 28. Looking forward to a great morning. - NO COSTUMES just Halloween colored clothing. Thank you.
- There is NO SCHOOL for Pre K 3 and Pre K 4 on Wed. 10/30. (the rest of OLQP has school.) Prek teachers have a professional development day.
- Costumes CAN be worn on Halloween Day, Thursday, Oct. 31. Please keep in mind that your child should be able to use the bathroom with the costume that they wear throughout the day. No masks, weapons or special costume shoes may be worn. As we recommend on a daily basis, velcro shoes are highly advised. Parents are invited to watch the OLQP Halloween parade in the schoolyard starting at 1:30.

Week of October 14, 2019 - October 18, 2019
Some activities this week included:
-Reading Brown Brown Bear Brown What Do You See? and playing a card matching game to match real animals with pretend animals.
- Talked about pumpkins and how they grow, then made paper bag pumpkins.
- Reading You Be You and talking about how we are the same and different from our friends.
- Getting a visit from the local Firehouse - Ladder 85 on Richmond Rd. The children had the opportunity to climb up to the inside of the firetruck and even pretend to be the driver. Some of our friends were a little shy to climb up the big truck!!!!

-Sharing our nature collections. The children enjoying showing everyone what they found on their nature walk.

- Reading On Monday When It Rained and talking about our feelings.

Week of September 23, 2019 - September 27, 2019
This past week our class has continued to settle in and learn the routines of our classroom. We are learning how to walk in a line holding on to our classroom rings. Some activities this week included:
- reading, Owl Babies - a book about how mommy always comes back.
- introducing how to use headphones while listening to music
- learning about the parts of an apple, tasting different types of apples, charting our favorite apple and apple painting.
-celebrating Ethan's birthday. Happy 3rd birthday Ethan!!
We had a wonderful time at the Ice Cream Social seeing all the children and their families enjoying time together and eating delicious ice cream.
Week of September 16, 2019 - September 20, 2019
We had another great week at school! The children are transitioning wonderfully and learning our classroom routines. Some activities this week included:
- reading, Will I Have a Friend?
- playing with playdoh
- introducing the attendance chart.
- learning to be friends and sharing

Week of September 8, 2019
This week was our first full week of school and we are transitioning into our full-time schedule. Some activities this week included:
- Learning the rules and routines of our classroom.
- Reading Llama Llama Misses Mama and The Kissing Hand.
- Getting to know one another and learning our friends' names.
- Celebrating Stella's 3rd Birthday!! Happy Birthday, Stella!!
